Interview MA

Next up in our interview series with the team is Matt Anderson. Anders or Hollywood whichever you prefer to call him is one of our tallest receivers who always manages to score big touchdowns in some very important games the winner against Wigan at V Day just one of the many. Find out what Anders has to say about preseason and our upcoming season in the BAFA league.
What are your views on our new head coach and captain? What are you expecting them to bring to their new roles?
I think they were both great choices, in the brief opportunities Danny has had to show what he can do leading a session he's proven he can bring some different energy and insights to the coaching side. So far he's been great and I'm sure with more time he'll only get better. Dean as captain is a great choice and I'm happy for him, he's a really genuine guy, always seems to put others before himself but also isn't afraid to make a decision for the benefit of everyone. Loves organising as well does the lad, can't wait to see the socials he's got on his mind!

You've recently got a new role at the club, how does it feel to be vice captain?
I'm looking forward to a slightly increased role, I feel like I can justify my moaning now as well. Seriously though I'm just hoping to step up when needed and do my best for the lads.

How do you think Preseason is going so far?
Pre-season is going really well, the team is looking so sharp on both sides of the ball, everyone is putting in some phenomenal reps both in training and on the game days. I'm excited to see how far we can go in our first national league season.

What are your goals for this season?
Team goals for this season are to win, always the goal. I think we're all feeling good about where we're at heading in to the season and the attitude amongst us seems the same as mine. We're ready to win some games. Personal goals are much of the same as the rookie year; catch stuff that's high up and hopefully land in bounds... I might even try running with it afterwards this year too, see if that helps!

Are there any members of the team you think we should be watching out for this season?
There's so many players that all add so much its hard to pick just one! Jake obviously will cause any team problems, he's the fastest man alive! As much as I hate to tell him I think we've got one of the best blitzers in the country in Lyno. Our Safety tandem of Keates and Matty Meir is a little bit frightening, along with a ridiculous core of defensive backs we're a little bit spoilt on that side of the ball. And then there's Lewis at QB who wouldn't have it but he's the reason our offence is as potent as it is now.

You’re an offensive player but you jointly hold the record for most interceptions in a single game. Do you ever think about switching to the defence?
I honestly didn't know that stat... That's going on the CV! I'm also the world's slowest yet bizarrely effective blitzer, but no hahah defence isn't on the cards for me and I think most of the guys will agree I'm best nowhere near a defensive formation!

What teams are you looking forward to playing this year?
The standard Wigan win is always a pleasure! But seriously I'm looking forward to really testing ourselves at this BAFA league level, I think every game I'm excited for the challenge.
