Interview LJ

Next up in our interview series is Lewis Jaundrell - general manager, QB1 and occasional receiver. Find out what Lewis has to say about how our first year as a team has gone and what we can look forward to in the upcoming BAFA season.
As General Manager you’ve had to put a lot of work into helping us be a success. We’ve recently had our first birthday, How do you think the first year has gone? What are your goals for the team this year?
It’s been tough but well worth it! We finished last year with a winning record, a win in the OFL Plate and 3 other finals so you have to say it’s been a huge success, although losing out in those 3 finals stings. This next season we want to pick up where we left off and keep improving. The goal has to be promotion to the premier league but it won’t be easy our division and conference will be really tough to get through.

How do you feel preseason is going?
Preseason is going well. Mr Meir has stepped up at Head Coach and is putting us through our paces. We took part in the OFL’s Pirate Bowl and managed to reach the final. We have a couple of friendlies lined up and lots of work to do before we’re ready but so far so good.

Speaking of Mr Meir, on Sunday he took over his first official training session as coach how was it?
Hard! But nothing less than expected from a megalomaniac. Joking aside he has really impressed and the lads enjoyed his session and are looking forward to next week.

What are your personal goals for this season? Do you want to take Danny’s touch down record away from him?
Haha yeah! We can’t have a centre/receiver holding a quarterbacks record!! But seriously my personal goal is just to do whatever it takes to lead the offense to promotion. I wont be worrying about personal stats… Honest!

We’ve got a great bunch of lads on this team. Who should we be watching out for this season?
There genuinely isn’t a weak link. So the whole team are ones to watch, they perform every week. If I was pressed to single someone out I would have to say our youngest player Calvin Strong, he’s really come on and produced a team MVP performance at Pirate Bowl.

What teams are you looking forward to playing this season?
Wigan!! Decent group and good too. We have played them a few times last year and although we’re unbeaten vs Wigan it doesn’t tell the whole story – a few of those games we’re only won by a point or two. I love a good local rivalry. As well there’s the Roosters. Having already lost to them once we know they’ll be tough to beat and they always play with the right ethos.
