Interview JL

Next up in our interview series is our very own 'Jon Snow' Jamie Lyness. Lyno is ridiculously fast and as a blitzer he regularly records sacks and safeties. Find out what he has to say about our first year as a team, preseason and what we can expect from him this BAFA season.
We had a great rookie year. How do you feel it went? Were there any personal highlights for you?
This year has absolutely flown by! I think it has helped having a vision of where we want to be from the get go. The work that goes on behind the scenes makes our jobs on the pitch that much easier, we just need to go out and perform. Thanks to everyone who puts in the hard work in, week in week out. We couldn't train or compete without your effort! I personally have loved every minute of it; from the incredibly hungover match days and training sessions, away days in Northampton, to hosting our own tournament (except from trying to cut the grass the day before!). I think if I asked any of the team, we could all be proud of what we have achieved so far and there's only bigger and better things to come in the future. On a personal note I enjoyed getting the joint safety record in the OFL.

He’s only a couple of sessions in but how do you think Danny’s doing as head coach?
Credit to DJ Meircat for stepping up when it was needed. The last few sessions have been really fun and agility is definitely a personal target of mine. I've struggled with a few of the drills but this can only improve me as a player. Danny has taken a step back and looked at the major areas of improvement for the team and is working on these using game scenarios. Although we joke around and have a laugh, the lads put in the effort and it shows when it comes off on game days. Our last training session could have been a disaster with the weather but luckily we have a few of class clowns to keep us entertained. Mouse pulling a Klinsmann in the snow was brilliant. Although I'm not quite sure why he proceeded to put hand fulls of snow down his shorts afterwards though.

We’ve played a few friendly games and played in a tournament so far this preseason, how’s it gone?
I missed the preseason tournament through holidays but by all accounts we were really unlucky not to win and getting to any final is an encouraging way to start the season. The friendly with the Bandits this weekend was a great run out for both teams and it was great to socialise with them after too at Libertys.

What are your goals for this season?
Promotion. We want to win every game we play in and hopefully top the division. Personally, I'm aiming big this season. I want to get the most sacks in the division! My job is to just make it as difficult as possible for the opposition QB and I plan on doing that in every game. It would be nice to get a shut out at some point as well.

Who on the team should we watch out for this season?
This is a tough question. We have strength in every position which makes this question so difficult. I think Mr In the Friend Zone has an important job with his new position as captain and he's the right person for the job. I also hear that Pookie bear is pleased with his continuing role on the defense. I could quite easily make a case for every member of the D though. On the offence side I think Aiden Rodgers could be a big hitter this season. He's got the height and speed to cause real problems for the opposition.

What teams are you looking forward to playing this season?
I really enjoy playing Bandits and Roosters. We have played both teams a few times and it's always a good laugh. I'm looking forward to testing ourselves in the league. If you want to be the best then you have to beat anyone that is put in front of you. I'll take each game at a time and give 100% to frustrate their offense and fingers crossed we get the results we want.
