Interview DM

Our first interview of the year is with none other than Mr Player's Player of the Year Danny Meir. Danny Meir is one of our receivers who occasionally jumps in at centre and even quarter back when needed. For the 2018 season he has a new role at the club we'll find out how he feels about his new role and what we can expect for this season.
Congratulations on the new job Coach Meir! You had your first session on Sunday, how was that?
The first training session as Head Coach was tough. Trying to work offense and defense separately with quarter backs requesting their own drills on top of trying to teach rookies the basics of the game was difficult to juggle. Hopefully I managed to keep everyone motivated and challenged the players without scaring off the new lads.

We had our first preseason tournament a few weeks ago at the OFL Pirate Bowl. How did you feel it went?
Overall Pirate Bowl went well. I feel like the lads dug in, in what was a very long day. Lots of improvements were needed though. Yes we got to the final but complacency and often reliance on an excellent defensive performance could have cost us on a few occasions.

What are your goals for this season, both personal and for the team?
Promotion is ultimately the team goal. For me, I want to get the team more agile. We’re never going to be the fittest team but we can be certainly be the fastest.

We’ve got a lot of great players on the team, are there any players we should be looking out for this season? Well except Jake “The Fastest Man Alive” Shaw.
Dean Leaver is my man to watch in 2018. Newly gained confidence following his promotion to club captain could push his game to the next level. It helps that he finally got laid too.

You currently hold the record for most Touch Downs thrown in a single game with 7. How does it feel not being a Quarter Back and having that record? Have you ever thought of changing positions?
I’m still not sure how that happened but I can see that record being broken during the BAFA season. With longer games and time outs don’t be shocked if Lewis Jaundrell challenges for the title this year.

What teams are you looking forward to playing this season?
We may have to wait until next year but I want to challenge ourselves against Manchester Crows during a competitive game. They were one of the first teams we ever played (as can’t catch won’t catch) and they tore us apart. To be the best team in the North West, they are the benchmark and although we’ve taken away a few wins in friendly games, they’d be different beast during a match up in the national league.
