Interview DL

Next in our interview series with the team is none other than Mr Friend zone himself Dean Leaver. Not only is Dean one of our strongest defenders he's recently been voted Captain for this season. See how Dean feels about his new role at the club and what we can expect from him and the team for the upcoming season.
Congrats on the captaincy! What are you planning to bring to the role? On and off the pitch.
Thanks, it’s an honour to lead the team for the next season. First order of the captain is to start a captains bbq tradition, beers and food a plenty, hopefully with a few trophies to eat and drink out of. On the pitch, I’ve always been a firm believer of leading by example so, I’ll be making sure the usual ‘bag’ suspects are not too disrespectful to the refs and just ensuring our team is performing at their best every single game!

You currently hold the record for the most receiving yards in a single game. As a defensive player how good does that feel? Do you ever feel like switching to the offence?
This is the best question I’ve been asked, what can I say, Jake Shaw is not happy about this record! I play on the offence when I’m needed, which is fun but what can I say other than defence wins championships so I’ll be focusing on that this season.

We had a great rookie year. What are some of your highlights from it?
There were lots of highlights for the team last season, such as beating the local rivals Wigan 5 times in a row, but winning the Stanley Flashman trophy was my favourite!

What are your goals for this season?
Goals for this season are to get promoted into the top division this would be a fantastic achievement for our first BAFA season, also to continue improving as a team.

Who on the team should we be watching out for this season?
I’m going to answer this in two parts, first player for me to mention is Keates, I think his play calls for the defence and his ever improving skills at safety will see him be a key member of a strong defensive unit. Secondly, in the offence Aiden Rogers, coming into his first full year this season, he has pace and great hands, you may even see him attempting a few one handed catches!

What teams are you looking forward to playing this season?
I’m hoping this season we get to test ourselves against the best teams in the country, I would love a matchup against the Northampton first team, hopefully in an OFL final.
