BAFA Game Day 6

BAFA Game Day 6
28th July 2018

For game day 6 we travelled to Chorley to play Oldham Owls and Chorley Buccaneers. We had Daryl Thomas step in as Coach for the day as Danny Meir was off on holiday. Jamie Lyness was also missing with Matt Meir coming in as blitzer for the day rather than his usual safety position.

Our first game was against Oldham Owls. The Revs got off to the perfect start with Jake Shaw getting the first touchdown but he couldn’t follow it up with the extra point. The defense did well to keep the Owls from scoring on their first drive with some big tackles from Adam Gray and Mathew Pritchard. With the Revs offense back on the pitch Lewis Jaundrell had Jake Shaw and Nathan Whitlow get the ball up the pitch for Matt Anderson to receive the ball and score the next touchdown but again the Revs missed the extra point. The Owls scored and got their extra point putting some pressure on the Revs to keep the lead. And who else to make sure we did that than Jake Shaw who scored the next touchdown with Lewis Jaundrell passing the ball at least 30 yards to Jake Shaw for him to run it into the end zone. But just like the other 2 touchdowns we just couldn’t get that extra point. The defense again kept the Owls out with Dean Leaver batting down some big passes. Jake Shaw got the next touchdown as well with Daryl Thomas following it up with the extra point. The game finished 44-20 to the Revs with Nathan Whitlow, Jack Barton and Daryl Thomas adding 3 more touchdowns. Adam Gray led the defense with the most tackles in the game, Mathew Pritchard and Richard Keates each getting an interception and Matt Meir getting a sack.

Our second game of the day was against hosts Chorley Buccaneers. The Revs defense got off to a great start with Matt Meir getting a safety to start the game. With Chorley getting the ball back the defense did well again to keep them from scoring. Our offense also got off to a great start with Jake Shaw getting the first touchdown of the game but we couldn’t follow it up with the extra point. Jake Shaw got the next touchdown as well and Daryl Thomas got the extra point. Chorley would come back into the game and get a touchdown but our defense would stop them from scoring the extra point. Lewis Jaundrell would then go on to throw 2 interceptions in our next couple of offensive drives but it wouldn’t cost us as our defense would again keep Chorley from scoring with Dean Leaver and Richard Keates making sure those passes didn’t reach their receivers but as Richard Keates jumped to stop the pass he landed on his back and couldn’t continue in the game. Our defense kept Chorley out for the remainder of the game with the game finishing 34-6 with Jake Shaw, Matt Anderson and Daryl Thomas adding 3 more touchdowns. Adam Gray led the defense in tackles for the second game in a row and got 2 interceptions.

After winning both of our games today we topped the Division 1 MEC West conference. As the BAFA regular season is now over we finish the season 12-1. But we still have the play offs to look forward to as well as the promotion game against Leeds to play to get us into the Premier Division so we can’t take our foot off the gas just yet.

Everyone at Revs HQ are immensely proud of all the lads and everything they’ve done in each game to get us to where we are in our first BAFA season.

Quote from Matt Anderson

Offensive Man of the Day as voted for by the team.
"The lads did really well in some interesting conditions on the day, with a small pitch and rough weather the two big wins were good to see. Defensive especially we were phenomenal."

Quote from Adam Gray

Defensive Man of the Day as voted for by the team.
"Highlight was Jake proving he's not immortal by dropping his sandwich in the Tesco car park. Still ate it though, what a trooper!"
