BAFA Game Day 2

BAFA Game Day 2
5th May 2018

Game Day 2 Review

After the best start to the season we could have wished for, with 2 big wins in week 1, we knew we needed to build on the result and keep the momentum going into the next game week. This week we travelled to Wigan to play Oldham Owls and Chorley Buccaneers. With some key players missing we had 2 players, Daryl Thomas and Jack Barton return to the squad to make their BAFA debuts... and what a debut they had!

The first game of the day was against Oldham Owls. After being out a while due to a serious illness Daryl Thomas marked his return with the first touchdown of the day following up with another soon after. Then came the turning point, a superb set of plays from our defense kept the Owls from scoring giving Lewis Jaundrell and his offense the chance to pull ahead. However, it looked like a missed chance as the offence saw 4th down with no yards gained but it was  Jack Barton who kept the drive alive with a toe-dragging side line grab just over half way. Jack Barton then went on to score the touch down and even added the extra point - What an introduction to BAFA. The game finished 54-25 to the Revs. Jake Shaw playing both sides of the ball came away with the most tackles in the game as well as 3 touchdowns on the offense. Matt Meir and Adam Gray came away with 2 interceptions in the game, whilst Dean Leaver led the team in passes defensed.

Our next game of the day was against Chorley Buccaneers who also had a perfect week 1 (picking up two wins) so we were prepared for a tough game. The game didn’t start out like we would have hoped with Lewis Jaundrell throwing an interception on the opening play of the game which led to the first score of the game. This dreadful start clearly fuelled the offense asLewis Jaundrell then threw a great pass to Dean Leaver who ran in for our first touchdown of the game whilst Jack Barton added the extra point to give us a lead. The game finished 81-6 and for most of the game it was defensive touchdowns that put the points on the board with Jake Shaw scoring 3 pick 6’s and Adam Gray also getting a defensive touchdown. Dean Leaver and Matt Meir both intercepted the ball in vital positions giving the offense better field positions and Jamie Lyness got an impressive 4 sacks in the game (he needed just 1 more to equal the current record). Lewis Jaundrell threw 8 touchdowns in the game with Daryl Thomas and Jack Barton joining Dean LeaverAdam Gray and Jake Shaw on the score sheet. The biggest play of the game had to go to Lewis Jaundrell and his 4th down full length throw to Jake Shaw who ran a defence splitting Post route in deep coverage to add another score to his already impressive season.

Going into game day 2 we were low on squad numbers but again the team put in some massive shifts and in the heat came away with 2 big wins and lots of sunburn. Jake Shaw playing both sides of the ball was rightfully voted as Man of the Day by the team. Game day 3 will be held in Sheffield where we will play the Nottingham Bears and the Nottingham Honey Badgers.

Quote from Jake Shaw

Man of the Day as voted for by the team.
"Saturday could not have gone much better! We were missing some key players and the rest of the team pulled together to bring home two emphatic wins! Great performance, great day!"
