BAFA Game Day 114th April 2018
Game Day 1 Review
Saturday marked our first game day of the season as the Cheshire Cavaliers hosted game day one in Crewe. Our two games were against Wigan Bandits and Cheshire Cavaliers.
Having played Wigan Bandits in preseason and many times before that we knew this match wasn’t going to be easy. Wigan were the first to get on the score sheet and followed it up with a great defensive stop which piled on the pressure. A big interception on the very next drive by
Mathew Pritchard gave us the push we needed to get back into the game by giving the offense another shot. Our first touchdown went to
Matt Anderson with
Jake Shaw adding the extra point. The rest of the game there were some big stops from the defense with
Adam Gray
leading the game in tackles and one big diving tackle from
Calvin Strong to stop Bandits Dino Vernazza
making a run up the field on fourth down. The game finished 34-6 to the Revs with
Lewis Jaundrell throwing 4 more touchdowns to
Danny Meir and
Jake Shaw.
Our next game was against the Cheshire Cavaliers. The first touchdown of the game went to
Danny Meir
with
Matt Anderson adding the extra point. The defense did their job keeping the Cavaliers out as it wasn’t until we were 28-0 up that the Cavaliers got their first and only touchdown of the game.
Calvin Strong and
Adam Gray
making sure it was a quiet game for
Dean Leaver and
Mathew Pritchard and even
Jamie Lyness came away with 2 sacks. With 1 second left on the clock we got the ball back. As the end zone to end zone pass sailed through the air to an open receiver we looked certain to cap off the victory in style. But as the ball fell,
Jake Shaw couldn't quite hold on...But the less said about that the better eh Jake? The game finished 54-6 to the Revs with
Lewis Jaundrell throwing 8 touchdowns to break the team record for most touchdowns thrown in a single game (currently held by Danny Meir) 3 of those touchdowns going to
Danny Meir and 4 going to
Jake Shaw and
Matt Anderson popping up at the end of the game with 1 himself.
We finished the day being 2-0 which currently puts us the top of MEC West Division 1 on points difference with Chorley Buccaneers just behind us after winning both of their games.
Going into game day 1 we were low on squad numbers with some household names missing on both sides of the ball but the guys that turned up put in a big shift in both games for us to score 88 points for the day and only concede 12. Game day 2 will be hosted by Wigan Bandits on the 5th May we’ll be looking to come away with the wins when we come up against Chorley Buccaneers and Oldham Owls.
Quote from Lewis Jaundrell
Man of the Day as voted for by the team.

"Absolutely made up with the results - weekend couldn't have gone much better! Not only did we win the games but were excellent in every position. Need to take this form into the next game day but with tough opposition we can't get ahead of ourselves."
