For game day 4 we headed to Oldham to play Rotherham Roosters, Calderdale Knights and Sheffield Giants. After our first loss of the season last time out we went into this game week knowing we needed to put in some big performances to get back to winning ways. With Adam Gray and Calvin Strong missing we had Lewis Jaundrell, Jamie Lyness and Daryl Thomas come back into the team as well as Aiden Rogers and rookie Nathan Whitlow making their BAFA debuts.

Our first game was against the Rotherham Roosters. We’ve played the Roosters many times but since then they have recruited well so we weren’t 100% sure what to expect from their new players. The Roosters started with the ball and scored with their first drive. With Lewis Jaundrell and his offense on the pitch it was Daryl Thomas who showed what we had missed when he caught a short pass and advanced the ball a further 22 yards to set the Revs off to a good start in their opening drive. It was Matt Anderson who scored the first touch down for the Revs and Jake Shaw followed it up with the extra point. The game was very back and fourth between the Revs and the Roosters with our defense keeping the Roosters out multiple times. The game finished 33-6 to the Revs with Daryl Thomas adding another touchdown to his stats, a 42 yard touchdown from Coach Danny Meir and Matt Anderson adding another touchdown and even blitzer Jamie Lyness added 2 points with a safety. Nathan Whitlow made his debut and impressed with his speed to get away from defenders. The defense put on a great display with Captain Dean Leaver leading the team in tackles made followed by Matt Meir.

Our second game was against Calderdale Knights, having played the Calderdale Knights once before we had an idea of what to expect from them. Aiden Rogers came back into the team to make his BAFA debut after sitting out the Roosters game to score the first touchdown and got his second touchdown of the game soon after. The Knights were finding it difficult to get a score thanks to our defence, with Richard Keates batting down some big throws and Matt Meir intercepting a couple too. But it was Jake Shaw who had been playing both sides of the ball who got himself a pick 6 adding to his touch down total for the day. The Knights were still struggling to score but with our offence back on the pitch it wasn’t looking likely but thanks to a rare interception thrown by Lewis Jaundrell the Knights scored their first and only touch down of the game. The game ended 32-6 to the Revs.

The third game of the day we came up against Sheffield Giants this would be the third time we have met a Giants team winning one and losing one so we knew we needed a big performance to come away with the win. The Revs got off to a great start with Daryl Thomas getting the first touchdown of the game and Matt Anderson following it up with the extra point and then going on to score the next touchdown after a huge pass from Lewis Jaundrell. The Revs added 2 more touchdowns before the Giants got their first and it seemed like the Giants had finally found their way through the strong Revs defense as they followed up with another score. When the Revs offense got back on the pitch Lewis Jaundrell went down with an injury after clashing with a Giants defender so it was up to Richard Keates to come on in his place and ensure we got the win. Richard Keates had been having a great game for the defense with his 2 interceptions and it was time for him to prove a point and show what he can do at QB. And that he did by throwing 4 touchdowns in the second half to Jake Shaw and Danny Meir. The game finished 45-28 to the Revs. Both sides of the ball put in a huge performance, Jake Shaw and Danny Meir coming away with 2 touchdowns each on the offense and Dean Leaver and Jamie Lyness leading most tackles made in the game on the defense.
